The Hanukkah House TM
The Hanukkah House is a demonstration project integrating computers and Jewish learning in a play-like setting. The Hanukkah House reinforces Hebrew vocabulary through the creation of a Hanukkah scene.
We would appreciate your comments on this project.
How to Play (Java version)After the Java program loads, you start with an empty room and a list of Hebrew words on the right.
Add objects by dragging Hebrew words into the room. (Dragging means clicking and holding the mouse button while moving the mouse.) As you drag an object, the word for it is highlighted.
Move an object around in the room by dragging it. Remove an object by dragging out of the room. When you drag an object, it moves to the front of the scene.
|NOTE: If the colors appear dull or speckled, try
changing the number of colors on your display.
The Java implementation in some browsers alters colors when the display is set
to 256 colors, some alter the colors when the display is not set to 256 colors, and some
work correctly all the time.
(See your computer manual for how to change the number of display colors.)
How to Play (non-Java version)You start with an empty room and a list of Hebrew words on the right.
Choose which image to add by clicking on a Hebrew word. Wait until it becomes highlighted in blue.
Click anywhere in the room and an image corresponding to the highlighted word will appear. (The place you clicked will be at the bottom center of the image.)
Click on this icon to remove the last image you placed in the room Keep clicking to remove more images. (To put back an image you removed, draw it again by clicking in the room.)
Click on this icon to see a framed "snapshot" of your picture in a new window. You can save your snapshot and come back to it at any time by adding it to your bookmarks (also called "favorites" in some browsers), but you cannot change a snapshot. Close the snapshot window to return to drawing.
Special instructions when you do not see the above two icons in the game:
To remove the last image you placed in the room, click on your browser's Back button. (Clicking Back undoes the last change you made, which may have been to select a new word. You may have to click Back several times before an image disappears.) Keep going Back to remove more images.
You can save your picture and come back to it later by adding it to your bookmarks (also called "favorites" in some browsers).
That's all there is to it! Click to play The Hanukkah House -- Java or non-Java -- and have fun!
